Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas are creating innovative resources for today’s young people. Here is a look at the top school districts in the area, as well as more information on our top-of-the-line charter schools.
Colorado Springs Best School Districts 2018
The top three highest rated school districts in Colorado Springs are: 12, 20 and 11. North of Colorado Springs, and serving Monument, Palmer Lake and Woodmoor is the Lewis-Palmer School District, which is also highly ranked.
Cheyenne Mountain Schools District 12 is ranked high in both public and charter schools. Cheyenne Mountain Elementary School as well as Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy are both highly regarded and ranked.
The Colorado Department of Education honored Cheyenne Mountain School District as “Accredited with Distinction”, the only one in the Pikes Peak region. It was also selected by the US Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School, a distinction given to less than 400 schools nationwide annually recognizing academic performance. Colorado’s John Irwin School of Excellence Award has also been presented every year since 2001.

Air Academy High School is ranked 39th in Colorado and has a 93% graduation rate. It serves the US Air Force Academy and northwestern Colorado Springs and is a public school. https://www.asd20.org/
In addition, TCA High School was ranked #10 by US News and World Report in 2016 out of all Colorado public high schools. The Classical Academy launched in 1997 and is the largest charter public K-12 school in the state. http://tcatitans.org
Colorado Springs School District 11 is one of the most established in the area. They offer over 60 schools and alternative education opportunities for students. District 11 offers Choice Enrollment so you can pick the school you desired for your student, regardless of location. https://www.d11.org
Thomas MacLaren is a District 11 charter school serving grades 6-12. They are expanding to lower elementary (grades K-5) for the 2018/19 school year. Since 1999, the award-winning school develops students “who are fully human and fully awake to the world”. The Lewis Palmer School District serves the northern most part of the Colorado Springs area including the city of Monument. District 38 is one of the top school districts in Colorado and is Accredited with Distinction, having students place consistently above State and National averages for SAT and ACT scores. More than half of their teachers have earned doctorates or master’s degrees.
Based in Peyton, CO, School District 49 serves northeast Colorado Springs and Falcon. They are the fastest growing district in the area and their “school-of-choice” options serve over 19,000 students. The District offers a military student transition consultant and numerous programs to support educational goals.
