Hold onto your hat – or better yet, your favorite gumbo tasting spoon, because the 20th annual Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cook-off and Carnival Parade is headed to Manitou Springs on Saturday, March 1st!
Cook-off at Soda Spring Park
Held in Soda Spring Park, amazing chefs will bring their best taste of New Orleans to Manitou Springs. Cooking begins at 8 a.m., with judging getting underway at 10:35. The public is welcome to sample the gumbo right after the judges are done, with tastings lasting up until 1 pm, or whenever the gumbo vanishes – whichever happens first! Tastings are very reasonably priced at 2 for $1.00, and ticket sales will be done by 12:30, so it’s advisable to get there early.
If you happen to be a gumbo chef and want to enter, then great news – there’s no entry fee for contestants, and the winners will take home cash prizes or trophies. There is both a professional and amateur division, but there are only 18 entries available & preregistration is required. So crank up your favorite zydeco tunes, and get a move on – visit the Manitou Springs website for more details.
